A Mixed Bag in the Europa Conference League: Two Perfect Scores and Plenty of Near Misses
The Fipster model had a day of highs and lows across 17 fixtures, nailing two STAR performances with exact score predictions and several TICKs for correct outcomes. Yet, the misses outnumbered the hits, especially on confidence ratings and halftime calls, making for an entertaining rollercoaster of predictions.
Today’s UEFA Europa Conference League fixtures served up a proper mixed bag for the Fipster prediction model. While it managed to hit the jackpot twice with STAR grades—Borac Banja Luka’s 2-0 win over KuPS and SC Braga’s identical 2-0 victory against Gent, both perfectly predicted down to the exact score—the rest of the day was a bit more of a guessing game.
Among the TICKs, Ajax’s 2-0 win over Atalanta showed the model got the outcome right despite missing the exact score, while Inter Club d'Escaldes’ 1-3 loss to Universitatea Craiova also saw a solid outcome call paired with correct BTTS and over-under predictions. Monaco’s 3-0 triumph over SC Freiburg and Trabzonspor’s 2-0 win against Heart Of Midlothian rounded out the TICKs, each with accurate outcome calls but no exact score hits.
However, misses were plentiful. The model struggled particularly with confidence ratings—often overconfident when results went awry—and halftime correctness was another weak spot. Matches like Getafe versus FC Lugano (2-5) and Kairat Almaty against Panathinaikos (1-5) defied expectations spectacularly, leaving the model’s predictions looking a bit optimistic.
BTTS calls mostly landed well even in misses, showing some consistency there. But overall, with only 2 STARs and 4 TICKs out of 17 fixtures, it was a day where the model reminded us that football can be wonderfully unpredictable—much like our attempts at perfect forecasting.
