Süper Lig · 2026-27 · Regular Season - 8

Süper Lig’s eighth round mostly followed the model, then let a few late names have their say

Six correct calls out of nine is tidy enough, but the round was more interesting for where Fipster missed: Çorum FK and Kocaelispor both went against the grain, while the player sheet was rescued by names like Mohamed Salah, Mbaye Diagne and Cengiz Ünder. The bigger lesson was simple enough — the model had the right read on several home wins, but it still leaned too hard on a couple of scorer lists that never quite arrived.

The round mostly landed where Fipster pointed, but not always in the way it expected

Six correct calls from nine is a decent return, and the pattern behind them was fairly plain: home sides were generally trusted, and most of them did enough to justify that trust. The awkward bit came in the margins. A couple of scorelines were too generous, a couple of scorer lists were too busy, and two away wins slipped through where the model had preferred control to resistance. That is usually how a round gets its personality. Not through one grand collapse, but through a few small assumptions refusing to line up neatly.

Başakşehir was the cleanest hit because the key scorer call held early

The best call was Başakşehir against Gaziantep FK. Fipster backed Eldor Azamat Shomurodov as the main attacking outlet, and he scored inside nine minutes. That mattered because it matched the pre-match logic rather than merely flattering it: Başakşehir were expected to carry more of the threat at home, and Shomurodov was singled out as the player most likely to turn that edge into an actual goal. The rest of the prediction did not need to be perfect for that to count. Once the first goal arrived from exactly the named source, the model’s read on where danger would come from looked properly grounded.

Kocaelispor was where we over-read the home case and under-read Göztepe’s finishers

The miss that stings most is Kocaelispor against Göztepe. Fipster leaned into a comfortable home win and built its scorer view around Kocaelispor pressure plus familiar names such as Berkan Kutlu and Florian Ayé. Berkan Kutlu did score, which is why this one is not a total wipeout, but the match turned on what Fipster did not have enough weight for: an own goal from Show and then Novatus Dismas Miroshi finishing Göztepe’s winner. In other words, the model saw enough of Kocaelispor’s attacking shape to expect them to dictate matters, but it did not give enough credit to Göztepe surviving long enough for their own moments to decide it.

The round’s decisive names were not all the ones Fipster had circled beforehand

Mohamed Salah was one of the players who justified his pre-match billing. He scored for Trabzonspor and kept his season tally moving in line with what Fipster had flagged: a reliable source of goals in a side expected to control proceedings. Mbaye Diagne also rewarded a call, scoring late for Amed after being named among the likely scorers before kick-off. Cengiz Ünder did likewise for Çorum FK; that one mattered because it was one of only two goals in a match Fipster had actually tipped away from home. Those are the tidy wins for a prediction model — not just getting close on result shape, but naming at least one player who genuinely shaped how things unfolded.

But this round also belonged to players Fipster never called out in advance. Adam Arous scored twice for Kasımpaşa and changed that game far more decisively than any pre-match note suggested. Romelu Lukaku Bolingoli scored for Fenerbahçe after being left off the scorer list entirely, while Cláudio Winck added another uncalled goal in Kasımpaşa’s win over Samsunspor. Add Ozan Tufan opening Trabzonspor’s scoring without pre-match mention, plus Serdar Dursun and Umut Güneş turning Başakşehir’s game into something less tidy than expected, and you get the real lesson: even when Fipster has the broad result right, individual matches can still be decided by names sitting just outside its frame.

Next week needs fewer guesses about secondary scorers

'The method held up well enough this time: strong on several home wins, useful on a few scorer calls, and wrong mainly where it trusted familiar attacking patterns too much. The next round will ask whether that balance can be tightened up — especially when matches look straightforward on paper but end up being settled by someone lower down the list or not on it at all. That is where these reviews become useful rather than decorative.
