Ligue 1’s rollercoaster day: model nailed a draw but stumbled on a few shocks
Nine fixtures, one abandoned, and a mixed bag for the Fipster model. Stade Brestois 29 and Angers shared spoils exactly as predicted, earning the model a shiny STAR. Meanwhile, Lille’s surprise loss to Auxerre and Lyon’s heavy defeat to Lens left the model scratching its head. Marseille and Strasbourg wins were well spotted, securing TICKs. Overall, a day of highs and lows for our trusty predictor.
The day kicked off with Stade Brestois 29 and Angers playing out a 1-1 draw, just as the model foresaw. It got everything right here — outcome, exact score, BTTS, over/under, and halftime prediction. A perfect STAR performance, if you will.
On the flip side, Lille’s 0-2 loss to Auxerre was a curveball. The model expected a home win and missed the mark on outcome and halftime, though it did guess both teams would score. A classic MISS moment.
Lorient also surprised with a 0-2 defeat to Le Havre, another MISS as the model predicted a draw. No BTTS here, so that prediction was off too.
Lyon’s 0-4 drubbing by Lens was a tough one for the model, which had called for a 1-1 draw. Outcome, BTTS, halftime, and exact score predictions all missed the mark.
Marseille’s 3-1 win over Rennes was a bright spot. The model got the outcome and BTTS right, earning a TICK despite missing the exact score and halftime.
Nantes versus Toulouse was abandoned, so no prediction to judge there. We’ll just pretend it never happened.
Nice and Metz played out a goalless draw, but the model had confidently tipped a home win. That one’s an overconfident MISS.
Paris FC’s 2-1 victory over PSG was another upset. The model expected a PSG win, so outcome and halftime predictions were off, though it correctly predicted both teams would score.
Finally, Strasbourg’s thrilling 5-4 win against Monaco was well predicted for outcome and BTTS, earning a TICK despite missing the exact score.
So, a day of mixed fortunes for the model: one STAR, two TICKs, and five MISSes. Not quite the crystal ball we hoped for, but we’ll take the wins where we can get them. Day grade: B-
