Confidence ratings stayed appropriate throughout, keeping expectations in check.
Today’s Serie A round gave the Fipster model plenty to chew on. It managed to pick the winners correctly in three matches — Atletico Paranaense edging Bahia 2-1, Flamengo squeezing past RB Bragantino 2-1, and Sao Paulo narrowly beating Internacional 1-0. Not too shabby for half the fixtures.
However, exact score predictions remained elusive across the board, with none landing perfectly. The model also struggled with both teams scoring calls, getting it right only half the time. Over-under predictions fared slightly better but still saw some misses.
On the upside, halftime outcome calls were spot on in a couple of games, like Flamengo vs RB Bragantino and Corinthians vs Fluminense — though that didn’t save the latter from being a miss overall. The confidence rating stayed appropriately cautious throughout, so no overconfidence-induced facepalms today.
The misses came in some surprising places: Corinthians losing at home to Fluminense despite a predicted win; Gremio and Palmeiras failing to find the net in a goalless draw that defied expectations; and Vitoria falling short against Cruzeiro contrary to predictions.
