A Mixed Bag in MLS: Two Ticks and Five Misses Keep Fipster on Its Toes

Fipster's crystal ball showed some promise with two solid calls today, including Columbus Crew's 4-2 win over Toronto FC and Nashville SC's 2-0 victory at CF Montreal. But the model also stumbled through five fixtures, missing outcomes and exact scores alike. Confidence was a bit all over the place, making for an entertaining day of predictions.

Today’s Major League Soccer action served up a real rollercoaster for the Fipster prediction model. The highlight? Columbus Crew’s 4-2 triumph over Toronto FC, where the model nailed the outcome, BTTS, and over-under calls — just missing out on the exact score and halftime guess. That’s a tidy little tick in the box.

Nashville SC’s 2-0 win at CF Montreal also earned a tick, with the model correctly calling the outcome despite being underconfident and missing BTTS, over-under, and halftime predictions. It seems even a cautious forecast can pay off.

On the flip side, five fixtures slipped through Fipster’s fingers like a wet bar of soap. Notably, New York Red Bulls’ 2-0 win against Inter Miami was completely missed — no outcome, exact score, BTTS, or over-under correct. Ouch.

Orlando City SC versus New York City FC ended in a 2-2 draw that the model confidently got wrong — predicting a 4-1 scoreline with an overconfident stamp. Confidence is great until it isn’t.

Other misses included DC United losing 0-2 to FC Cincinnati despite an overconfident prediction for a home win; Philadelphia Union falling 1-2 to New England Revolution despite correct BTTS and over-under calls; and Atlanta United FC dropping 2-3 to Chicago Fire where halftime was spot-on but everything else wasn’t.

Overall, Fipster managed zero stars but bagged two ticks out of seven fixtures — not quite a winning streak but enough to keep us entertained. The model showed strength in calling outcomes when it kept confidence appropriate or underconfident but struggled when it got too cocky or simply off its game.

So we’ll take those two ticks with a wink and brace ourselves for another round of MLS unpredictability tomorrow.
