Columbus Crew’s spot-on prediction steals the show in a mixed bag for Fipster
Fipster had a day of highs and lows across ten MLS fixtures, nailing one perfect scoreline while missing the mark on five others. The model showed confidence but sometimes overreached, especially on matches with unexpected outcomes and high-scoring draws.
Today’s MLS action served up a feast of results that kept our Fipster model on its toes. The standout moment? Columbus Crew versus Inter Miami, where Fipster not only predicted the winner but also nailed the exact scoreline and halftime outcome — a rare STAR performance to savour.
Alongside that gem, four other matches earned TICK grades, showing the model’s knack for calling the correct outcome even if it missed the precise score or halftime snapshot. FC Dallas edging out Los Angeles FC and Nashville SC’s win over Toronto FC both fit this pattern, as did Los Angeles Galaxy’s narrow victory against Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquakes’ solid home win over Portland Timbers.
On the flip side, five fixtures slipped through Fipster’s fingers. Seattle Sounders falling short against Minnesota United FC and Austin’s thrilling 3-3 draw with San Diego were among those surprises. The model was particularly overconfident in these misses, often expecting different outcomes or fewer goals than what unfolded.
Interestingly, the model tended to get the outcome right more often than not but struggled with exact scores and halftime predictions. BTTS (both teams to score) and over/under calls were hit or miss depending on how wild the game turned out to be — a reminder that soccer can be gloriously unpredictable.
All told, with one STAR, four TICKs, and five MISSes across ten fixtures, today was a rollercoaster for Fipster. We’ll take that one as a solid B+ day — proof that even when it stumbles, there’s plenty to cheer about.
