Fipster’s forecast hits six out of eight in MLS action, with a couple of surprises to keep us humble
The model showed solid form across eight Major League Soccer fixtures, nailing the outcome in most matches and even getting halftime calls right more often than not. While exact scores proved elusive, and a couple of upsets slipped through, the overall performance earns a respectable A for the day.
Today’s MLS slate gave Fipster plenty to chew on, with six TICKs and two MISSes across eight fixtures. The model was on point predicting match outcomes in most cases, showing it can pick winners even if it sometimes stumbles on the exact scoreline.
Standout performances included Columbus Crew’s 2-1 win over FC Cincinnati, where Fipster got the outcome, BTTS, over/under, and halftime calls right — a neat all-round job. Similarly, Philadelphia Union edged Seattle Sounders 1-0 with the model correctly calling outcome and halftime again, though exact score eluded it.
New England Revolution’s 4-1 victory over Atlanta United FC was another TICK despite missing on BTTS and halftime predictions. New York City FC also earned a nod for their 3-1 win against Chicago Fire with outcome and BTTS correct but halftime off the mark.
On the flip side, Orlando City SC’s narrow 1-0 win over Nashville SC caught Fipster off guard — none of the prediction dimensions landed here, reminding us that confidence can sometimes be misplaced. Likewise, New York Red Bulls’ unexpected 0-2 loss to Charlotte was a miss across the board despite an overconfident forecast.
Overall, Fipster showed it knows its stuff when it comes to picking winners and halftime outcomes but still has room for improvement on exact scores and BTTS calls. The model’s confidence ratings were mostly appropriate or underconfident when right, but occasionally overconfident when wrong — we’ll take that one as part of the learning curve.
