A Mixed Bag in MLS: Five Hits, Five Misses Keep Fipster on Its Toes

Major League Soccer delivered a rollercoaster day for the Fipster model on July 23, 2026. While it nailed the outcome in half of the fixtures, exact scores and halftime predictions proved trickier. Confidence ratings swung from overconfident to underconfident, making for a lively prediction day.

Today’s MLS action was a proper test for our beloved Fipster model, which ended up with an even split: five TICKs and five MISSes. Not quite a clean sweep, but hey, who’s counting? Well, we are.

Austin’s 3-1 win over Seattle Sounders was one of the brighter spots. The model correctly predicted the outcome despite underestimating the scoreline and missing on BTTS and halftime calls. Confidence was low but the result was right — sometimes being cautious pays off.

Nashville SC’s narrow 1-0 victory against CF Montreal also earned a TICK. The model got the outcome and halftime right but overshot the goal tally. Underconfident again here, proving that modesty can be a virtue.

Sporting Kansas City edged out Minnesota United FC 2-1 with the model hitting outcome, BTTS, and over/under marks — not bad at all! Halftime prediction missed though, so no perfect score today.

On the flip side, Charlotte’s 2-2 draw with Atlanta United FC was a tough nut to crack. The model confidently predicted a home win without BTTS or over/under success — an overconfident misfire that reminds us even algorithms have off days.

Los Angeles Galaxy’s surprising 1-3 loss to St. Louis City was another miss. The model expected a home win but got neither outcome nor halftime right — though it did predict BTTS and over/under correctly. A partial consolation prize.

Overall, exact score predictions were elusive across the board; none landed today. Halftime calls were hit only twice, showing that early game dynamics remain tricky to forecast.

The day’s confidence ratings varied widely: some overconfident stumbles (Charlotte vs Atlanta) contrasted with underconfident yet correct outcomes (Nashville vs Montreal). It keeps things interesting, doesn’t it?

So while Fipster didn’t quite hit the jackpot today, it showed enough flashes of accuracy to keep us optimistic. We’ll take five TICKs out of ten any day — room for improvement is part of the fun.
