A Mixed Bag in the Nations League: Italy and Cyprus Shine While France Stumbles
Eight fixtures, three TICKs, five MISSes — the model had a day of highs and lows. Italy and Cyprus delivered on outcome predictions, while France’s surprise thrashing of Belgium left the model scratching its head. Confidence was appropriate mostly, except a couple of overconfident calls that didn’t quite pan out.
Today’s Nations League action served up a proper mixed bag for the Fipster model. Italy’s 3-1 win over Türkiye was a highlight, scoring a solid TICK with correct outcome, halftime call, and over-under prediction — though the exact score eluded it. Cyprus also earned a TICK by correctly calling their narrow 2-1 victory against Latvia, proving the model can still pick winners when it counts.
On the flip side, France’s emphatic 4-1 dismantling of Belgium was a stinker for the model — none of the key prediction dimensions landed here. The same goes for Ukraine’s loss to Hungary and Bosnia & Herzegovina’s shock win over Poland; both missed on outcome and other metrics. Northern Ireland versus Georgia ended goalless despite an overconfident prediction expecting goals and a home win — lesson learned about reading too much into those scorelines.
Montenegro versus Armenia also saw an overconfident call fall flat as a predicted 3-2 thriller turned into a goalless draw. Romania’s narrow defeat to Sweden was another TICK for outcome accuracy but missed on other fronts. Overall, the model nailed outcomes in three matches but struggled with exact scores and BTTS calls across most fixtures.
With zero STAR grades today but three respectable TICKs amid five misses, it’s clear there’s room for improvement — especially in predicting goal details and BTTS. Still, we’ll take those outcome hits where we can get them and keep our fingers crossed for better luck next time.
