Nations League day serves up a mixed bag for Fipster's crystal ball
Eight fixtures, two TICKs, and six MISSES — the model had its moments but mostly found itself outfoxed on September 27th. BTTS calls showed some flair, but exact scores and outcomes proved trickier than expected.
Today’s Nations League action was a bit of a rollercoaster for the Fipster prediction model. Out of eight matches, it managed to earn two TICKs — not quite the star performance it hoped for, but we’ll take those wins where we can get them.
Denmark’s 2-0 victory over Wales was one of the brighter spots. The model nailed the outcome and halftime call, though it missed the exact score and other finer details. Similarly, Austria’s 3-1 win against Kosovo earned a TICK with correct outcome, BTTS, and over/under predictions — a neat little hat-trick of accuracy.
On the flip side, some surprises caught the model off guard. Germany losing 0-1 to Greece was a notable MISS; while halftime was predicted correctly, the final outcome wasn’t even close. Norway’s narrow defeat to Portugal and Israel’s 0-3 loss to Rep. Of Ireland also slipped through the cracks despite decent confidence ratings.
BTTS predictions were a bit hit-and-miss today — they landed in Lithuania vs Azerbaijan and Serbia vs Netherlands but failed elsewhere. Over/under calls fared slightly better but still left room for improvement.
All told, with zero STAR grades and six MISSES, it wasn’t exactly a day to write home about for our trusty model. But hey, even an underconfident oracle gets a few things right now and then.
Model record: 0 STAR · 2 TICK · 6 MISS. Day grade: C+.
