Como’s spot-on prediction steals the show in a mixed bag of Serie A results
Four Serie A fixtures gave our model a bit of a rollercoaster ride today, with one sparkling STAR performance from Como’s exact score call, a solid TICK for Lazio, and two misses including the high-scoring Napoli-Roma thriller.
Today’s Serie A round was a bit of a mixed bag for our trusty Fipster model. The highlight? Como’s 2-0 win over Sassuolo, where the model nailed not just the outcome but the exact scoreline too — that’s our lone STAR of the day. It even got the BTTS and over/under calls right, though it missed halftime accuracy by a whisker.
Lazio’s 2-1 victory against Parma earned a respectable TICK. The model correctly predicted Lazio would win and that the total goals would be over the line, but it overshot on the exact score and didn’t foresee both teams scoring. Halftime prediction also slipped away here.
On the other side of things, we had to swallow two MISS grades. Cagliari losing 0-2 at home to Bologna was quite the upset for our model, which had forecasted a home win. Still, it did get some calls right — correctly predicting no goals for Cagliari and that both teams wouldn’t score, plus getting halftime right. So not all doom and gloom.
Then there was Napoli versus AS Roma — a thrilling 3-3 draw that completely flummoxed our model. It expected a low-scoring home win with no goals for Roma and came up short on every front: outcome, exact score, BTTS, over/under, and halftime predictions all missed their mark.
Overall, today’s record stands at 1 STAR, 1 TICK, and 2 MISSes. The model showed its strengths in calling outcomes and goal totals when matches were more straightforward but struggled with surprises and high-scoring affairs. We’ll take the wins where we can get them — especially that Como call — and keep working on taming those unpredictable games.
