Alverca’s narrow win is the lone bright spot in a tricky Primeira Liga day for Fipster
Four fixtures, one TICK and three MISSES. The model called Alverca’s 1-0 victory correctly on outcome and halftime but struggled elsewhere, including an overconfident miss on Sporting CP’s 2-2 draw with Arouca.
Alverca’s 1-0 win over Rio Ave was the only fixture where the model got the outcome right, earning a respectable TICK. It nailed the halftime prediction too, though the exact score and other finer details slipped through its fingers. A solid if not spectacular performance — we’ll take that one.
Gil Vicente versus Maritimo was a classic case of overconfidence backfiring. The model predicted a home win but ended up with a 1-1 draw. At least it got the halftime call and over-under correct, so not all was lost.
Nacional’s heavy 0-4 defeat to Famalicao was another miss. The model fancied Nacional to edge it 2-1 at home but instead faced a drubbing. It did get the over-under right, showing some sense in predicting goals even if the winner was wildly off.
Sporting CP’s 2-2 draw with Arouca proved too much for the model’s confidence, which had them winning comfortably at home. No luck on outcome, exact score, BTTS or halftime here — just a reminder that football likes to keep us humble.
Overall, it was a tough day for Fipster in Primeira Liga round 7: no STARs, just one TICK among three MISSES. The model showed strength in halftime calls when it got them right but struggled with exact scores and both teams scoring predictions. Still, predicting football is never easy — we’ll chalk this one up as a learning experience.
Day grade: C+.
