A Mixed Bag in the Premiership: Two Ticks, Three Misses

The Fipster model saw a day of highs and lows across five Premiership fixtures on October 17th. While it nailed the outcome in Aberdeen's win over St Mirren and Falkirk's upset at Hibernian, it stumbled on the draws and a close Kilmarnock victory. Confidence levels varied, with some underestimations and one overconfident call thrown in for good measure.

Today’s Premiership predictions served up a proper rollercoaster. The model got the outcome right in two matches — Aberdeen’s 3-1 win against St Mirren and Falkirk’s 2-1 victory over Hibernian — both times showing a bit of modesty with underconfident calls. Not bad, but no exact scorelines nailed here; the model likes to keep us guessing.

On the flip side, three fixtures didn’t go as forecasted. Dundee and Rangers drew 2-2 despite a predicted Rangers win, while Kilmarnock edged Motherwell 3-2 against an overconfident prediction favouring Motherwell. St Johnstone versus Dundee United also ended in a draw, confounding expectations of a St Johnstone win. The model did spot both teams scoring in the latter two games, so at least it had that part right.

Halftime predictions were universally off today — not one correct call there — suggesting the model might want to brush up on its half-time reading skills. Over-under calls were mostly missed except for Kilmarnock-Motherwell, where it correctly anticipated a high-scoring affair.

Overall, with zero STAR grades but two TICKs out of five fixtures, the model showed flashes of competence but plenty of room for improvement. We’ll take those two ticks and keep our fingers crossed for better luck next time.
