MLS day sees Fipster split six ways with a couple of tidy ticks

A mixed bag for the model on August 29, 2026, as it nailed two predictions but stumbled on four. High-scoring Inter Miami and Philadelphia Union matches brought some cheer, while goalless draws and unexpected results kept things lively.

Today’s Major League Soccer fixtures served up a feast of unpredictability, and our trusty Fipster model had to wrestle with that. Out of six matches, it managed to bag two TICK grades — not quite star quality, but we’ll take those moments of clarity.

Inter Miami’s 7-1 demolition of CF Montreal was one of the model’s better calls. While it didn’t get the exact score right (who could?), it correctly predicted the outcome, both teams scoring, and the match going over the goal line. Confidence was a bit shy here, so we’ll give it credit for punching above its weight.

Similarly, the New York Red Bulls versus Philadelphia Union clash ended 1-3, matching the model’s forecast on outcome and goals scored patterns. Again, no exact score hit, but a solid performance nonetheless.

On the flip side, Seattle Sounders and Chicago Fire drew 2-2 against a prediction favouring Chicago to edge it. The model got both halftime and full-time outcomes wrong here but did correctly foresee both teams finding the net and a high-scoring affair.

DC United versus Los Angeles FC was a goalless stalemate that caught the model off guard entirely — no goals predicted at halftime or full time. Confidence was appropriate but clearly misplaced.

Toronto FC’s draw with New York City FC and Atlanta United FC’s loss to Charlotte were also misses. The model leaned towards home wins with goals aplenty but instead got shut out or outscored itself — overconfidence can be a cruel companion.

Overall, today’s record stands at zero STARs but two TICKs amid four misses. The model showed strength in predicting outcomes where goals flowed but struggled when matches turned defensive or defied expectations. A day of highs and lows then — just like football itself.
