Barcelona strolls past Valencia while Espanyol and Malaga confound the model
Four La Liga fixtures brought a mixed bag for Fipster today: two solid ticks with Alaves and Barcelona, but misses on Espanyol and Malaga. The model’s confidence was mostly appropriate, except for one overreach at Espanyol.
Today’s La Liga action served up a feast of goals and surprises, with Barcelona’s 5-0 demolition of Valencia standing out as the model’s highlight. Fipster nailed the outcome and even got BTTS right, though the exact score remained elusive. That’s a tidy tick to start us off.
Alaves also earned a thumbs-up from the model by winning 5-2 against Osasuna. While it didn’t get the exact score or BTTS call spot-on, predicting the home win was enough for a respectable tick. Sometimes close counts in horseshoes and predictions.
On the flip side, Espanyol versus Sevilla threw a spanner in the works. The model confidently forecasted a 4-1 home win but ended up with a 1-1 draw. At least it got BTTS right—silver linings and all that—but overall this one was a miss.
Malaga and Levante’s goalless stalemate also caught Fipster off guard. Despite correctly calling halftime outcomes, it missed on outcome, BTTS, and over/under predictions. A reminder that clean sheets can be tricky beasts to predict.
Overall, two ticks and two misses make for an honest day’s work. The model showed appropriate confidence in most calls except for that overconfident shout at Espanyol. It seems Fipster prefers to play it safe but isn’t afraid to swing big sometimes—though not always successfully.
