Swansea’s stalemate steals the spotlight in a day of mixed fortunes for Fipster
With 11 Championship fixtures under its belt, the Fipster model delivered a modest haul: one STAR prediction, four TICKs, and six MISSES. Swansea’s exact score call was the highlight, while some unexpected results kept the model on its toes.
Today’s Championship action served up a proper mixed bag for the Fipster model. The headline moment? Swansea and Wrexham playing out a goalless draw that the model nailed to perfection — outcome, exact score, BTTS, over-under, and halftime all spot on. A rare moment when our underconfident prediction really had its day.
Elsewhere, Burnley versus Bristol City ended 1-2 with the model correctly calling the outcome and BTTS but missing out on the exact score and halftime prediction. Millwall’s 4-0 thrashing of Bolton was another tick in the box — outcome and over-under right, halftime correct too — though it missed on BTTS as no goals came from Bolton.
West Brom’s narrow 1-0 win over Watford also earned a TICK with outcome and BTTS right, plus halftime accuracy. West Ham’s 3-0 victory against Derby followed suit with a TICK for outcome and over-under calls. These solid calls show that while not flawless, the model can still pick winners and sensible goal expectations.
On the flip side, there were some notable misses. Lincoln versus Southampton ended 1-1 but the model wrongly predicted a Southampton win. Portsmouth’s 2-0 home win against Cardiff also caught it out completely — no correct dimensions there at all. Preston beating Blackburn 2-1 was another upset against predictions, as was QPR losing 0-1 to Middlesbrough despite an optimistic home win forecast.
Sheffield United’s 1-3 loss to Norwich was another overconfident miss; the model expected a home rout but got none of it right except for over-under being correct. Stoke City’s 4-0 demolition of Charlton also defied predictions entirely — no correct calls except for over-under again.
Overall, with one STAR prediction and four TICKs out of eleven fixtures, today’s performance was patchy but not without merit. The model showed strength in calling outcomes and goal expectations in some matches but struggled with exact scores and halftime predictions more often than not. Confidence ratings varied from underconfident to overconfident across games — a reminder that even algorithms have their off days.
