Fipster’s mixed bag: two perfect scorelines and a handful of surprises
The UEFA Nations League fixtures on September 25th saw Fipster nail two exact score predictions, including Sweden’s narrow win over Romania and Montenegro’s victory against Cyprus. Yet, the model stumbled on several matches, notably Italy and Belgium’s clash and Poland’s goalless draw with Bosnia & Herzegovina. Overall, a day of highs and lows for our trusty predictor.
Today’s Nations League action gave Fipster a bit of a rollercoaster ride. The model was spot on with two fixtures earning it star grades — Sweden edged out Romania 2-1 exactly as predicted, nailing outcome, exact score, BTTS, and over/under calls (though halftime proved elusive). Montenegro also delivered the goods with a 2-1 win over Cyprus, where every prediction dimension clicked perfectly, including halftime correctness. We’ll take those moments of precision with a wink.
Armenia’s 2-0 triumph over Latvia earned a tick grade for Fipster — the outcome was right but the exact score and other finer details slipped away. Not bad for an underconfident call.
On the flip side, the model misfired in half the fixtures. Georgia losing to Northern Ireland 0-1, Türkiye falling to France by the same scoreline, Italy getting beaten 0-2 by Belgium, Hungary’s narrow loss to Ukraine, and Poland drawing goalless with Bosnia & Herzegovina all caught Fipster off guard. Outcome predictions were off across these games, though at least halftime calls were mostly on point except for Hungary vs Ukraine.
Confidence ratings were generally appropriate where misses happened — no false bravado here — while underconfidence marked some of the hits. It seems our model is better at calling close wins than upsets or stalemates today.
So all told: two stars, one tick, five misses. Not quite a clean sweep but enough bright spots to keep us smiling. Day grade: B-.
