Serie A Day Sees Fipster Model Stumble Across the Board
Three fixtures, three misses for the model as it confidently predicted outcomes that just didn’t come to pass. While it nailed some BTTS and over/under calls, the scorelines and results left it looking a bit overenthusiastic today.
Today's Serie A round was a tough one for our beloved Fipster model, which failed to correctly predict the outcome in all three fixtures. Not exactly the kind of hat-trick we like to celebrate.
Starting with Corinthians versus Atletico Paranaense, the model confidently forecasted a 2-0 home win but was met with a goalless draw instead. It did get the no-goals-against part right though, correctly predicting both teams wouldn’t score and that the total goals would be under the threshold — silver linings, eh?
Fluminense hosting Bahia was another case of misplaced optimism: a 3-1 home win predicted but a dull 0-0 stalemate unfolded. The model missed on every front here — outcome, exact score, BTTS, over/under and even halftime prediction. At least its confidence rating was appropriate; sometimes you just have to own your mistakes.
Finally, Vitoria versus Palmeiras saw Palmeiras storm to a 4-0 away victory, while our model had expected a narrow 1-0 home win. It got BTTS wrong (no goals for Vitoria) and over/under wrong (the match was definitely over), plus halftime prediction missed the mark again. Confidence was appropriate here too — perhaps it knew deep down this one was a long shot.
Overall, not our finest hour with zero STAR or TICK grades and three MISS marks across the board. The model showed some promise in spotting when both teams wouldn’t score or when matches would stay under certain goal totals, but that’s scant consolation when the core predictions fall flat.
We’ll take this one on the chin and hope for better luck next time around. After all, even the best models have their off days.
