Roma and Inter keep the model mostly smiling, but Venezia spoils the party
Serie A's seventh round served up two tidy ticks for our prediction model with Roma and Inter getting their outcomes right, while Venezia's surprise win over Napoli left the model looking a bit too confident. No exact scores nailed today, but at least both BTTS calls were on point where it mattered.
Today’s Serie A action gave our trusty Fipster model a mixed bag to chew on. The highlight? Both AS Roma and Inter Milan delivered results that matched the predicted outcomes perfectly, earning the model two solid TICKs. Roma secured a 2-0 victory over Genoa, with the model correctly calling the outcome and even predicting both teams would not score, which was spot on.
Inter’s 3-1 win at Bologna also went largely according to plan. The model got the outcome right again and even nailed the over-under call, though it underestimated the final scoreline by one goal. Interestingly, confidence was marked as underconfident here — perhaps a modesty we can appreciate.
Then came Venezia’s unexpected 1-0 triumph over Napoli, which threw a spanner in the works. The model missed this one across every accuracy dimension — outcome, exact score, BTTS, over-under and halftime predictions all off target. It was also flagged as overconfident, proving that sometimes even our best guesses can be undone by an upset.
Overall, no STAR grades today but two TICKs show the model had its day more often than not. Exact scores remain elusive as usual, but getting outcomes right is half the battle won. Halftime predictions continue to be a tricky nut to crack — none landed correctly across these fixtures.
