Mixed fortunes as Fipster calls two wins and two whiffs in Premiership action
Fipster's crystal ball was half full today with two solid ticks and a couple of misses across four Premiership fixtures. The model nailed the outcome in Heart Of Midlothian's big win and Celtic's comfortable away victory, but Motherwell and Rangers had other ideas, leaving the prediction engine scratching its metaphorical head.
Today’s Premiership results served up a mixed bag for the Fipster model. It got the broad strokes right in two matches but stumbled in the other pair — proving that even algorithms have their off days.
Heart Of Midlothian’s 4-0 thrashing of Dundee Utd was a highlight for the model, which correctly predicted the home win outcome and that the game would be over 2.5 goals. It missed on exact score and halftime calls, but we’ll take that one — especially since it was underconfident going in.
Similarly, Celtic’s 5-1 romp at Kilmarnock earned a tick for Fipster. The model got the match outcome right, spotted both teams would score, and called the over-under correctly. Again, exact score and halftime predictions fell short, but hey, nobody’s perfect.
On the flip side, Motherwell versus Falkirk ended goalless against expectations — Fipster had forecast an away win with goals aplenty but got none of those calls right except halftime accuracy. Meanwhile, Rangers’ narrow 1-2 loss to Hibernian also caught the model out; it predicted a home win but did correctly foresee both teams scoring and an over 2.5 goals tally.
Overall, no STAR grades today but two TICKs show Fipster still has its moments of brilliance amid the misses. Outcome predictions were hit or miss depending on fixture drama, while over-under and BTTS calls leaned more towards success when goals flowed.
