Ligue 1’s Fipster model finds mixed fortunes on a high-scoring day
Five fixtures, five different stories for the Fipster prediction model in Ligue 1’s regular season round 7. Two TICKs for Lyon and Paris FC show the model can still sniff out winners, but three MISSES remind us it’s not always spot on — especially when Marseille and Monaco decide to shake things up.
Today’s Ligue 1 action served up plenty of goals and a fair share of surprises, leaving our trusty Fipster model with a mixed bag of results. Out of five fixtures, the model scored two TICKs and three MISSES — enough to keep us entertained without breaking into a sweat.
Lyon versus Nice was one of the brighter spots for the model. It correctly predicted Lyon would take the win and nailed the over-under call, even if the exact scoreline proved elusive. Similarly, Paris FC’s narrow victory over Rennes earned a TICK thanks to an accurate outcome prediction and another successful over-under guess.
On the flip side, Marseille’s convincing 5-2 win at Angers caught the model off guard completely — no correct calls anywhere in the accuracy breakdown. Le Havre’s loss to Auxerre also slipped through, despite getting BTTS and over-under right. Monaco’s unexpected defeat at Lorient was another miss, though at least halftime predictions held firm there.
Overall, today’s results highlight that while the model can pick winners and goal trends with some confidence (appropriate confidence rating across all fixtures), it still struggles with exact scores and sometimes even basic outcomes when teams throw curveballs. But hey, that’s football — unpredictable as ever.
So we’ll take those two TICKs as proof that the model had its day amid a few stumbles. After all, it’s all part of the fun trying to predict this wonderfully chaotic league.
