Eredivisie thrills with two solid ticks and one cheeky miss for Fipster
The model called the outcome right in two matches but stumbled on the ADO Den Haag vs PSV game, where it got the scoreline wrong despite nailing BTTS and over/under. Confidence was generally well-placed, except for a slight underestimation in Sparta Rotterdam's win.
Today's Eredivisie action served up a mixed bag for our beloved Fipster model. The standout moment? ADO Den Haag's 2-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven, which caught the model off guard. Despite predicting a higher-scoring affair with PSV edging it 3-2, the model did correctly foresee both teams finding the net and that the match would exceed the goal threshold. Alas, the exact outcome and halftime prediction were off, proving even algorithms can be surprised by a home win.
Meanwhile, Telstar versus Feyenoord was a closer call to the model’s forecast. It nailed the outcome correctly with Feyenoord winning 4-3, also getting BTTS and over/under right. The exact score eluded it again, as did halftime accuracy, but we’ll take that one as a solid tick in the box.
Sparta Rotterdam’s narrow 3-2 win against Willem II was another tick for Fipster. The model predicted a home win with fewer goals (2-1), so while it missed on exact score and halftime, it got the outcome and goal-related calls spot on — all this despite being underconfident about Sparta’s chances. Sometimes modesty pays off.
Overall, no star performances today but two ticks and one miss make for an "A-" day grade. The model showed strength in predicting outcomes and goal involvement but could sharpen its precision on exact scores and halftime states. Still, it’s better to be appropriately confident or even underconfident than wildly off — at least that’s what we tell ourselves.
