August 29th served up a proper mixed bag for our trusty Fipster model in the Championship. While it didn’t quite hit the jackpot with any star predictions, it managed to notch four ticks—proof that even on a challenging day, there’s something to smile about.

Southampton’s 5-1 demolition of Millwall was a standout success. The model nailed the outcome and got the all-important both teams to score call right too, plus over-under predictions lined up nicely. It was an "appropriate" confidence rating day here—no false bravado, just solid forecasting.

Norwich also delivered a tidy 4-1 win over Burnley, earning another tick with correct outcome prediction. Although exact scores remained elusive across the board, getting the result right still counts for something in this unpredictable league.

Middlesbrough’s 3-1 victory against West Brom was another tick in the box. The model called the winner but missed out on BTTS and halftime accuracy—proof that football loves to keep us humble.

Bristol City’s narrow 2-1 win over Portsmouth also earned a tick thanks to correctly predicting the outcome and halftime status, despite underestimating the scoreline.

On the flip side, some surprises threw off our model’s mojo. Derby’s heavy 0-3 loss to Swansea was one such shocker where confidence perhaps got ahead of itself. Wolves’ 4-1 thrashing of Stoke City was another miss where neither outcome nor BTTS predictions landed.

Other fixtures like Blackburn vs QPR and Cardiff vs Sheffield United saw partial hits—correct calls on both teams scoring or halftime results—but ultimately missed on final outcomes or exact scores. A reminder that football is rarely straightforward.

Overall, with zero stars but four ticks out of eleven fixtures, today’s round was a humbling reminder that even smart models can get caught out by Championship unpredictability. Still, we’ll take those ticks where we can get them and keep refining our crystal ball.
