Europa League Play-offs Serve Up a Mixed Bag for Fipster
With nine fixtures under its belt, the Fipster model delivered a respectable five ticks and four misses across the UEFA Europa League play-offs on August 27th. While it didn’t quite hit any stars today, the model showed its mettle in calling outcomes correctly more often than not, even if exact scores proved elusive.
Today’s Europa League action was a rollercoaster for our trusty Fipster prediction model. It managed to get the outcome right in over half of the fixtures, earning five TICK grades, but also stumbled on four occasions. No STAR performances this time around, but hey, we’ll take consistency over perfection any day.
Highlights include Plzen’s convincing 4-1 victory over FK Crvena Zvezda where the model nailed the outcome and BTTS calls, though it underestimated the scoreline and missed halftime accuracy. Anderlecht’s 3-0 win against Kairat Almaty was another solid call with correct outcome and over-under predictions, just missing on BTTS and halftime.
Ferencvarosi TC’s 4-0 thrashing of Trabzonspor also saw the model get outcome and halftime right, plus BTTS surprisingly correct despite the clean sheet. Meanwhile, Ararat-Armenia edged Universitatea Craiova 1-0 with all key calls except exact score and over-under landing well.
On the flip side, some results caught the model napping. Aarhus’ 1-3 loss to Benfica was a complete miss across all dimensions despite an overconfident prediction. Kauno Žalgiris’ shock 1-0 win over Beşiktaş also slipped through with an incorrect outcome call.
The day’s overall pattern suggests Fipster is better at calling who’ll win than how many goals will be scored or what happens at halftime. Confidence ratings varied from underconfident to overconfident depending on the fixture, proving that even models can have off days.
All told, a solid if unspectacular showing from our prediction pal: no stars but plenty of ticks to keep us smiling. We’ll take that one and look forward to sharpening up those misses next time around.
