Fipster’s mixed bag: four ticks and a couple of misses spice up Champions League action
The model showed its strengths with four solid ticks, correctly calling outcomes in fixtures like Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over RB Leipzig and Como’s surprising 4-1 victory against Manchester United. However, it stumbled on Bayern München vs Arsenal and Lille vs Galatasaray, missing the outcome but nailing some other prediction aspects. Overall, a day of respectable accuracy with room for improvement.
Today’s UEFA Champions League league stage round 3 brought a healthy dose of unpredictability that kept our Fipster model on its toes. While it didn’t quite hit the jackpot with any star predictions, it managed a commendable haul of four ticks out of six fixtures — not bad for a day that included some surprising results.
Real Madrid’s convincing 4-1 win over RB Leipzig was one of the model’s better calls. It nailed the outcome and got the both-teams-to-score and over-under predictions right too, despite missing the exact scoreline and halftime call. The confidence rating was underconfident here — sometimes it pays to trust your gut more.
Como’s 4-1 triumph over Manchester United was another tick in the box. The model correctly predicted the outcome and also got both teams to score and over-under right, though again it missed the exact score and halftime prediction. Underconfident once more, but we’ll take those correct calls where we can get them.
Club Brugge KV’s 3-0 shutout of Lens also earned a tick. Outcome, over-under, and halftime predictions were spot on — though both teams scoring wasn’t expected this time. Another underconfident call that paid off nicely.
Real Betis edged Feyenoord 1-0 in a fixture where the model got the outcome right but missed on exact score, both teams to score, over-under, and halftime calls. Confidence was underwhelming here too — at least it picked the winner.
On the flip side, Bayern München vs Arsenal ended in a 2-2 draw that caught our model off guard. It missed outcome and exact score but did get both teams to score and over-under correct. Halftime prediction was off as well — an appropriate confidence rating couldn’t save this one.
Similarly, Lille’s 2-4 loss to Galatasaray was another miss for outcome and exact score despite correct both-teams-to-score and over-under calls. Halftime prediction again missed the mark with appropriate confidence.
Overall, no star predictions today but four ticks show our model is holding steady through some tricky fixtures. Both misses remind us there’s always room for improvement — especially when it comes to nailing those halftime scores.
