Pro League predictions stumble through a day of draws and drama

Fipster’s crystal ball fogged up on all three Pro League fixtures today, missing outcomes but at least spotting some goals where they mattered. Confidence was high, results were not.

Today’s Pro League action served up a trio of nail-biters that left our prediction model looking more like it was guessing than forecasting. Every single fixture ended with a miss on the outcome front — not exactly the kind of consistency we aim for.

Take Al-Ettifaq versus Al Khaleej Saihat: the model fancied a home win with 2-1, but the teams settled for a 1-1 draw. At least it got both teams to score right, so there’s that silver lining. Overconfidence? Absolutely.

Then there was Al-Hazm against NEOM, where the model predicted an away win without goals from the hosts. Reality? A 1-1 stalemate again, and no points for outcome or BTTS accuracy. The over-under call was spot on though — small mercies.

Finally, the heavyweight clash between Al-Hilal Saudi FC and Al-Ittihad FC saw a thrilling 3-2 finish. Our model expected a narrow away win but got both teams scoring and the over-under right. Confidence was appropriate here, if not quite rewarded.

So, no stars or ticks to celebrate today — just three misses reminding us that football loves to keep us humble. Goals were often predicted correctly even if winners weren’t, suggesting our model still knows where the net is but struggles with who’ll claim bragging rights.

We’ll take this one on the chin and sharpen our pencils for next time. Until then, enjoy the unpredictability — it’s what makes this game great.
