Primeira Liga predictions take a day off as Fipster misses all three
A tough day for the Fipster model in Primeira Liga with three fixtures and not a single prediction hitting the mark. From Gil Vicente's surprise loss to Academico Viseu, to Santa Clara's unexpected 4-0 rout of Rio Ave, and a goalless draw between Guimaraes and Casa Pia, the model struggled to find its footing.
Today’s Primeira Liga round was a bit of a reality check for the Fipster prediction model. None of the three fixtures ended with the model’s forecast coming true — not even close. It’s like bringing a map to a treasure hunt only to realise you’re reading it upside down.
Starting with Gil Vicente versus Academico Viseu, the model confidently predicted a 3-0 home win but instead got a 0-1 away defeat. Outcome, exact score, halftime prediction — all missed. The only silver lining was correctly guessing both teams would score, which they didn’t exactly do, but at least it tried.
Santa Clara’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Rio Ave was another curveball. The model tipped an away win by one goal, but Santa Clara had other ideas. Again, outcome and exact score were off the mark, though it did correctly predict both teams would find the net — which they spectacularly did not.
Finally, Guimaraes and Casa Pia played out a goalless draw that no one saw coming. The model expected a narrow home win and missed on outcome and exact score again but nailed the over/under call by predicting fewer than two goals. At least some credit where it’s due.
Overall, it was a day where confidence didn’t pay off—especially when overconfidence led predictions astray. No stars or ticks today; just three solid misses reminding us that football is wonderfully unpredictable. We’ll take this one on the chin and look forward to better days ahead.
