Brighton shines as Fipster splits the day with two ticks and three misses
Five Premier League fixtures tested the Fipster model’s mettle on September 19th, delivering a mixed bag of predictions. Brighton’s convincing 3-0 win over Arsenal was a highlight, while Tottenham’s surprise loss to Aston Villa reminded us that football keeps us humble. The model nailed outcomes twice but stumbled thrice, making for an entertaining review.
Brighton’s 3-0 triumph over Arsenal was the day’s standout result where the Fipster model got the outcome spot on, earning a tick. It correctly predicted Brighton to win and even called both teams to score — which Arsenal decidedly did not — so half marks there. The exact score and halftime prediction missed the mark, but we’ll take the underconfident call on this one.
Everton’s narrow 1-0 victory against Ipswich also earned a tick for the model. While it overshot on the exact score predicting a goal-fest (3-2), it did get the outcome right. Both BTTS and halftime calls were off, but at least it wasn’t underconfident here.
On the flip side, Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Hull City was a miss. The model confidently tipped Hull to edge it 3-2, so no points for outcome or exact score there. It did correctly predict both teams would score and that total goals would be over/under threshold — silver linings in a miss.
Nottingham Forest falling 0-1 to Coventry also caught the model out. It had Forest winning 1-0, missing outcome and exact score again. Interestingly, it nailed both BTTS and over/under predictions here — proof that even when wrong about winners, some details can still be right.
Finally, Tottenham’s unexpected 2-3 defeat by Aston Villa was another miss across all prediction dimensions — outcome, exact score, BTTS, over/under and halftime all off despite an appropriate confidence rating. A tough one for Fipster to swallow.
Overall, with zero stars but two ticks out of five fixtures, today was a mixed bag for Fipster. The model showed strength in calling outcomes when underconfident or appropriate but struggled with exact scores and halftime predictions across the board. Still, we’ll take those two ticks as proof that even on days like this, Fipster has its moments.
