Fipster’s mixed bag: a couple of ticks amid a sea of misses
Seven Premier League fixtures, two TICKs and five MISSes for the Fipster model today. It called the winners right in Aston Villa vs Nottingham Forest and Sunderland vs Arsenal, but struggled elsewhere, especially with scorelines and BTTS predictions.
Today’s Premier League round was a bit of a rollercoaster for the Fipster prediction model. Out of seven fixtures, it managed to nail the outcome in just two games — Aston Villa falling short at home to Nottingham Forest (1-2), and Sunderland going down 0-2 to Arsenal. Both earned a respectable TICK grade, showing the model had its moments.
However, the rest were less kind. The model missed the mark on five matches, including draws like Bournemouth vs Brentford (2-2) and Chelsea vs Hull City (2-2), where it predicted away wins but still got BTTS and over-under right. So close yet so far — it seems our friend was more optimistic about goals than reality allowed.
The Crystal Palace vs Ipswich thriller (2-3) was another miss, with the model confidently backing Palace to win 3-2. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s goalless draw with Fulham and Tottenham’s stalemate against Everton both confounded the model’s overconfident predictions for goals and outcomes.
Halftime predictions didn’t fare well either — none were correct across all fixtures. Confidence ratings varied from underconfident to overconfident, suggesting the model was guessing as much as predicting at times.
All told, today’s record stands at 0 STAR · 2 TICK · 5 MISS. Not exactly a day for bragging rights, but hey, even models have off days. We’ll take those two ticks as proof there’s hope yet.
