Sunderland’s spot-on call steals the show in a day of mixed fortunes
Four Premier League fixtures, four very different prediction stories. Sunderland nailed every detail for a perfect score, while Leeds and Brentford served up a surprise that left the model scratching its head. Chelsea and Manchester United brought home respectable ticks, proving the model’s not all at sea yet.
Today’s Premier League action was a bit of a rollercoaster for the Fipster model, with Sunderland vs Fulham providing the highlight reel. The model predicted a 1-0 win for Sunderland and got it exactly right — outcome, exact score, BTTS, over/under — all spot on. It even managed this despite being underconfident about the result. A rare moment to puff out our chests and say, “Well played!”.
Chelsea’s 4-3 thriller against Brighton was another tick in the box. The model called the outcome correctly and nailed both BTTS and over/under predictions, though it missed on the exact score and halftime call. Underconfident again here — maybe it just likes to keep us guessing.
Manchester United’s 5-2 victory over Ipswich also earned a TICK grade. Outcome, BTTS, and over/under were all correct but exact score and halftime predictions slipped through our fingers once more. Another underconfident forecast that turned out better than expected.
Leeds vs Brentford was where things went pear-shaped for the model. It predicted a Brentford win but got the outcome wrong as the teams shared spoils at 1-1. At least it called BTTS correctly and nailed halftime prediction — silver linings! Confidence rating was appropriate here, so no complaints about being too bold or timid.
Overall, one STAR performance from Sunderland’s fixture plus two TICKs means we can’t complain too much about today’s haul. The model tends to get outcomes and BTTS right but struggles with exact scores and halftime calls — nothing new there. Still, an A day grade feels fair given the mix of results.
