San Diego vs Philadelphia Union: Model's prediction takes a heavy hit
A 5-0 drubbing for San Diego leaves the Fipster model looking a bit overconfident, missing the mark on outcome and score but getting the over-under call right.
Today's sole Major League Soccer fixture served up a surprise that left our trusty Fipster model nursing its pride. Predicting a 4-3 win for San Diego, it instead witnessed Philadelphia Union storm to a 5-0 victory. Not quite the script we had in mind.
The model’s confidence was sky-high, but unfortunately, it was overconfident. It missed the outcome and exact score by a mile, and even the both-teams-to-score prediction flopped — no goals for San Diego to keep that hope alive.
On the bright side, it did get one thing right: the over-under call was spot on. So at least it knew there'd be plenty of goals to feast on, even if it guessed the wrong side of the scoreboard.
Halftime predictions also failed to impress today, adding to the tally of misfires. But hey, nobody’s perfect — especially not when faced with such a one-sided thrashing.
So we’ll take this one on the chin and look forward to better days ahead. For now, the model record stands at zero stars, zero ticks, and one miss — not quite what we hoped for.
