Colorado Rapids shine with a perfect prediction while Real Salt Lake stumbles
The Fipster model had a mixed bag in Major League Soccer on August 16, nailing one star performance and four ticks but missing three calls. Colorado Rapids delivered the standout moment with an exact score hit, while Real Salt Lake’s game was a lesson in overconfidence for the model.
August 16 brought a rollercoaster day for the Fipster prediction model in Major League Soccer. The highlight? Colorado Rapids versus Sporting Kansas City, where the model scored a perfect STAR grade by accurately predicting the exact 2-0 scoreline. It got the outcome, BTTS, and over/under right — just missed halftime correctness, but we’ll forgive that slip.
Nashville SC’s convincing 4-1 win over Inter Miami earned a solid TICK from the model. It correctly called the outcome and that both teams would score, along with the over/under result. The exact score was off, and halftime prediction didn’t land this time — close but no cigar.
Houston Dynamo edged out Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0, another TICK for Fipster. This time it nailed halftime alongside outcome, BTTS, and over/under predictions. Exact score was slightly off again, but overall a tidy job.
San Jose Earthquakes versus St. Louis City ended 1-3 and brought another TICK. Outcome and BTTS were spot on; over/under too. Halftime accuracy escaped us again — seems to be a tricky one today.
Chicago Fire’s narrow 2-1 victory against Portland Timbers also earned a TICK grade. Outcome and BTTS correct once more; exact score not quite there yet again.
On the flip side, Real Salt Lake’s 1-1 draw with Minnesota United FC was a tough one for the model — it missed every accuracy dimension and was flagged as overconfident. Similarly, Los Angeles FC’s unexpected 0-1 loss to San Diego caught Fipster off guard despite high confidence.
New York City FC’s 2-3 defeat by Philadelphia Union also slipped through the cracks with a MISS grade despite correctly predicting both teams would score and the over/under result.
Overall, it was a day of highs and lows: one STAR to celebrate, four solid TICKs showing good directional calls on outcomes and BTTS trends, but three misses reminding us even models have off days — especially when they get carried away with confidence.
Model record: 1 STAR · 4 TICK · 3 MISS. Day grade: A-
