Ligue 1’s Fipster model finds the net once in a day of mixed fortunes
Three Ligue 1 fixtures, three different stories for the Fipster prediction model: one solid hit, two misses, and a lesson in humility. The model called the outcome right only once but nailed some other bets along the way.
The highlight of today's Ligue 1 round was the Estac Troyes versus Lens clash. The model got the outcome spot on with Lens winning 3-1, even if it missed the exact scoreline. It also correctly predicted both teams would score and that the total goals would be over a certain threshold. Not bad for an underconfident call.
On the flip side, Lille's 1-1 draw with Stade Brestois 29 was a tough nut to crack. The model was overconfident expecting a home win by three goals to nil, but none of its predictions landed — outcome, exact score, BTTS, over/under, or halftime correctness all went south.
Strasbourg’s 1-3 loss to Paris Saint Germain also proved tricky. While the model got the halftime call wrong and missed the match outcome, it did correctly predict that both teams would score and that there would be plenty of goals overall. A partial success in an otherwise missed forecast.
Overall, the day saw no STAR predictions but one TICK and two MISS grades. The model showed it can still pick out some key elements like BTTS and goal totals even when it fluffs the main result. We’ll take that one with a wink and look forward to better days ahead.
