A Day of Near Misses and One Solid Call in Ligue 1
Five Ligue 1 fixtures tested the Fipster model’s mettle today, yielding a single TICK for Auxerre’s narrow win over Nice, while four other matches slipped through the cracks. Confidence levels varied, but the model mostly struggled to predict outcomes and scorelines accurately.
Auxerre’s 1-0 victory against Nice was the lone bright spot for our prediction model, earning a respectable TICK. The model nailed the outcome but missed on the exact scoreline and other finer details like both teams scoring or halftime correctness. It modestly underestimated the home side’s chances, showing some humility in its confidence rating.
The rest of the day was less kind. Le Havre versus Angers ended goalless, defying the model’s prediction of an away win. Despite being overconfident, it did get halftime right — a small consolation prize. Similarly, Lorient and Toulouse shared points in a 2-2 thriller that our model completely misread, expecting a home win with no goals from the visitors.
Paris FC and Lyon also played out a dull 0-0 draw, again confounding expectations of an away victory. The model was appropriately confident but failed to predict any aspect correctly except halftime outcome. Strasbourg and Monaco drew 1-1 despite predictions favouring Monaco; here, at least both teams scored as expected, though other calls were off.
Overall, today’s Ligue 1 round was a tough test for our trusty algorithm — one TICK among four MISSes suggests it might need to brush up on its homework. Outcome predictions were often off target, exact scores even more so, and BTTS calls mostly missed their mark. Still, we’ll take that single correct call as proof there’s hope yet.
