Ligue 1’s Fipster model finds itself in a bit of a pickle with five misses from five
No fairy tales for the Fipster prediction model today as every Ligue 1 fixture on August 29th slipped through its fingers. From Auxerre’s surprise defeat to Angers to Strasbourg edging out Lens, the model’s confidence was appropriate but accuracy was sadly absent.
Today’s Ligue 1 action left our trusty Fipster model looking like it forgot its glasses at home. Every single one of the five fixtures ended up as a miss, which is about as welcome as a rainstorm on matchday.
Take Auxerre versus Angers: the model confidently tipped an Auxerre win, but Angers had other ideas, running out 3-1 winners. Not a single prediction dimension landed correctly here — outcome, exact score, BTTS, over/under and halftime calls all went astray.
Stade Brestois 29 and Toulouse served up a 2-2 draw that the model didn’t see coming either. At least it nailed both BTTS and over/under predictions here, so we’ll give it a polite nod for those two. Halftime and outcome? Not so much.
Lorient versus Estac Troyes was another close call with a 2-1 away win that flipped the predicted result on its head. Again, BTTS and over/under were spot on — if only that had been enough to save the day.
Lyon and Le Havre drew 1-1 despite the model’s hopes for a home victory. It did get the over/under right here though — small mercies.
Finally, Strasbourg’s narrow 2-1 win over Lens also defied predictions. The model again got BTTS and over/under correct but missed out on calling the outcome or halftime result.
So what’s the verdict? Five fixtures, zero STARs or TICKs — just five MISSes. The model showed appropriate confidence throughout but couldn’t quite read Ligue 1’s mood today. We’ll take those BTTS and over/under hits where we can get them and hope for better luck next time.
Model record: 0 STAR · 0 TICK · 5 MISS. Day grade: D-.
