Twente and Ajax deliver the goods, but the model trips up on the Eagles and Cambuur
A mixed bag in the Eredivisie today as Fipster nailed two predictions with decent calls on outcomes and BTTS, yet stumbled on a couple of surprising results. Confidence was high in some quarters, but the scoreboard had other ideas.
Today’s Eredivisie action served up a bit of everything for the Fipster model. Twente’s 2-0 win over ADO Den Haag was a solid tick in the box, with the model correctly calling the outcome and both teams to score — though it missed out on the exact scoreline and halftime call. Not bad at all.
Ajax’s 5-1 romp against Fortuna Sittard also earned a tick, with Fipster spot-on on the match outcome and over-under prediction. It wasn’t quite perfect — no exact score or BTTS success here — but we’ll take that one, especially given it was underconfident going in.
On the flip side, GO Ahead Eagles’ 1-1 draw with Groningen caught the model off guard. Despite an overambitious predicted scoreline (4-2), it failed to call the outcome correctly and missed halftime too. At least it got BTTS right, so not all was lost.
Cambuur’s 3-0 victory over NEC Nijmegen was another surprise that slipped past Fipster’s radar. The model confidently expected a NEC win (1-2), but instead Cambuur shut them out completely. Outcome, exact score, BTTS, and halftime predictions all missed — a reminder that even smart models can be humbled.
Overall, two ticks and two misses make for a day of highs and lows. The model showed strength in predicting outcomes when favourites delivered but struggled with tighter or unexpected results. Confidence ratings were interesting: overconfidence led to some misses while underconfidence still managed a tick or two.
We’ll chalk this one up as progress with room for improvement — after all, even the best get caught out now and then.
