Eredivisie escapades: model nails two wins but stumbles on a six-goal thriller
Four Eredivisie fixtures on the card, with one postponed. The Fipster model scored two TICKs for correct outcomes but missed the mark on a high-scoring draw, showing that even algorithms can be caught off guard by a goal fest.
Today’s Eredivisie action served up a mixed bag for the Fipster prediction model. Fortuna Sittard versus AZ Alkmaar ended 0-2, and the model called the outcome spot on, earning a solid TICK despite missing the exact score and other finer details. It was an "appropriate" confidence call — not too cocky, not too shy.
Heerenveen’s 0-2 loss to PEC Zwolle also saw the model get the outcome right, another TICK in the bag. Interestingly, this time it was "underconfident," so we’ll take that as a humble nod from our digital oracle.
Then came Sparta Rotterdam against Utrecht—a six-goal thriller finishing 3-3. The model confidently predicted a 1-2 away win but got well and truly outfoxed here, earning a MISS. It did correctly foresee both teams scoring and the over-under result, so it wasn’t all doom and gloom—just not enough to save face.
NEC Nijmegen versus Excelsior was postponed, so no predictions there to fret over.
Overall, two TICKs and one MISS from three completed fixtures is nothing to sneeze at. The model nailed outcomes when it mattered but showed its limits in predicting exact scores and halftime results today. Still, an A- day grade means we’re mostly chuffed with how things went—plenty of room for improvement, but no shame in that.
Model record: 0 STAR · 2 TICK · 1 MISS. Day grade: A-.
