Fipster’s near-miss day in the Championship with a 6-0 hammering and a shock defeat
Four fixtures, one surprise upset, and three solid calls from Fipster. The model nailed the outcomes in most games but struggled with exact scores and halftime predictions. Confidence levels varied, but overall it was a day to be quietly pleased about.
Today’s Championship action served up a feast of goals and a dash of unpredictability for the Fipster model. The standout result was West Ham’s commanding 6-0 victory over Lincoln — the model called the outcome correctly and got the over-under right, though it modestly underestimated the margin. Confidence was low on this one, so we’ll take that as a win for humility.
Portsmouth’s narrow 3-2 win against Sheffield United also earned a tick. The model predicted Portsmouth to edge it and got both the outcome and BTTS spot on, plus the over-under — just missed out on nailing the exact score or halftime call. Not bad for an underconfident forecast.
QPR’s 4-1 triumph over Derby was another solid tick. Outcome, BTTS, and over-under all correct with an appropriate confidence rating, though halftime prediction again slipped through our fingers. It seems halftime is Fipster’s Achilles’ heel today.
The lone miss came courtesy of Norwich’s 0-1 loss to Southampton. Here, Fipster was overly confident predicting a Norwich win by quite some margin — none of the accuracy boxes were ticked. A reminder that even models have off days.
Overall, three ticks and one miss isn’t too shabby for four fixtures packed with goals and surprises. The model showed strength in calling outcomes and over-under bets but could do better on exact scores and halftime results. Confidence ratings were mostly sensible except for that Norwich blip.
