Swansea shines bright but overall, Fipster’s crystal ball foggy on September 1st

Today’s Championship round served up eight fixtures, and our trusty Fipster model had a bit of a mixed bag. The standout moment came courtesy of Swansea versus Watford, where the model nailed everything except halftime correctness — exact score, outcome, BTTS, and over/under all spot on. We’ll take that star performance with a wink.

Preston against Bristol City also earned a tick for getting the outcome right along with BTTS and over/under calls, though it missed the exact score and halftime prediction. Not bad at all for an underconfident forecast.

On the flip side, six fixtures ended up as misses. Birmingham versus Southampton saw the model correctly predict both teams would score but got everything else wrong — outcome, exact score, over/under, and halftime. Lincoln versus Blackburn was a shutout in reality but predicted goals aplenty; none of the key predictions landed.

Portsmouth versus Derby was another overconfident misfire: no correct calls at all despite predicting a home win with goals galore. Sheffield United against Bolton followed suit with an overconfident call that failed to predict any correct outcomes or scores.

Stoke City beating Norwich 1-0 was another miss — the model expected Norwich to edge it. West Ham’s 4-2 win over Wolves also caught the model off guard; while it did get BTTS and over/under right, it completely missed the outcome and exact score despite being quite confident.

Overall, it was a day where Fipster’s confidence didn’t always pay off — sometimes less is more! The model showed strength in predicting both teams to score and goal totals but struggled with outcomes and exact scores across most matches.
