Tomáš Chorý and the names Fipster missed most made a mess of Regular Season - 7

Three correct calls were enough to keep the week from slipping away entirely, but the round’s loudest lesson came from the players Fipster did not have down first: Tomáš Chorý, Martin Šubert and Vasil Kušej all scored without being called. The model found a few neat reads, yet it also leaned too hard on familiar scorers in matches that turned on different ones.

The round was not a disaster, but it was untidy in the way that matters. Three correct calls kept it respectable; four misses made sure there was no pretending this was a clean sheet for the model. The useful part is that the good reads were good for proper reasons, while the bad ones were usually bad because Fipster trusted the wrong scorer profile or assumed a game would stay close when it plainly had other ideas.

The one call that held together

Plzen away at Artis was the cleanest hit. Fipster backed an away win and got one, but more importantly it read the scoring burden correctly enough to land on Plzen’s attacking edge rather than chasing a home upset that never really had much air under it. The post-match data backed that up neatly: Plzen scored three, kept control of the game, and the goals came from Amar Memić, Cheick Souaré and Lukáš Červ rather than from any of Artis’ more obvious candidates. That is the sort of call that looks simple after the fact and slightly less simple before kick-off, which is usually how these things go when they go right.

Where we overcooked it

The miss that stings most is Slavia Praha against Zbrojovka Brno. Fipster leaned into named scorers who looked sensible on paper — Mojmír Chytil, Wiktor Nowak, Danijel Šturm, Daniel Vašulín and Antonín Vaníček — but none of them scored. Instead Tomáš Chorý took over with two goals, one from the spot and one from open play, while Emmanuel Ayaosi and David Jurásek added to the damage. The model overweighted familiar attacking form and underweighted how quickly this match would be decided by different runners altogether. Once Tomáš Chorý got the first goal, the rest of the afternoon stopped being a debate.

The names that actually shaped the round

Tomáš Chorý was the headline act because he was both unforeseen and decisive. That matters more than just another brace does; it tells you where Slavia Praha’s attack really went once the match opened up. Martin Šubert did something similar for Mlada Boleslav in a fixture Fipster did not predict at all, which is awkward for anyone trying to pretend silence in advance is a form of wisdom. Vasil Kušej also landed as an unforeseen scorer for Slovan Liberec, helping turn a missed draw call into an away win.

Among the players Fipster did flag properly, Mick van Buren and Adam Karabec both justified their billing with goals for Hradec Králové and Sparta Praha respectively. Péter Baráth did likewise for Sigma Olomouc, scoring and assisting in a comfortable win that matched his pre-match threat well enough. Matěj Pulkrab also came through as one of the called names for Teplice, even if his side’s result ended up better than Zlin’s prediction rather than worse than expected. Those are useful hits because they show the model can still spot individual danger; it just needs to stop assuming every danger belongs to its favourite suspects.

The next round should be watched with that in mind: keep respecting proven scorers, but do not let them crowd out what recent team shape is actually saying. This week rewarded sharper reading of who would finish chances rather than who merely looked likely to be involved. A small adjustment there, and Fipster stops turning decent instincts into avoidable misses.
