France vs England fireworks leave Fipster a bit off the mark

A six-goal thriller between France and England saw the model confidently predicting a low-scoring affair, but it was the over-under and both teams to score calls that kept us from a total meltdown.

Today’s World Cup 3rd Place Final between France and England turned into quite the goal fest, with England edging out France 6-4. Our trusty Fipster model, however, was expecting a much tamer scoreline of 2-1 in favour of France. So, let’s just say the model’s confidence was a bit overenthusiastic — it went in strongly for a French win but got the outcome spectacularly wrong.

On the bright side, it did correctly predict that both teams would find the net, and nailed the over-under call — so at least it knew we were in for goals. The halftime prediction, though? That one missed the mark as well, proving that even our clever algorithm can be caught napping when things get wild.

Exact score? Nope. Outcome? Nope again. But hey, we’ll take those partial hits where we can get them. It’s all part of the fun in following a model that sometimes gets ahead of itself — or behind itself, as today showed.

So after one fixture today and one miss on our hands, the model record stands at 0 STARs, 0 TICKs, and 1 MISS. Not exactly headline-grabbing stuff from Fipster this time around, but there’s always tomorrow to try again.
