Fipster’s near-perfect day marred only by Portugal’s surprise draw

June 17’s World Cup action gave the Fipster model plenty to chew on, and it mostly came out with its teeth intact. Across five fixtures, the model scored four TICKs and just one MISS, proving it’s no mug when it comes to predicting outcomes in the group stage.

Argentina’s 3-0 win over Algeria was a solid call, with the model correctly predicting the outcome and halftime result, though it missed the exact score and BTTS. Similarly, Austria’s 3-1 victory against Jordan saw the model spot the winner and halftime lead, but it didn’t quite get the over-under right or the exact tally.

England’s 4-2 triumph over Croatia was a cheeky one for the model. It got the outcome and BTTS right, and even nailed the over-under, but was underconfident on the halftime call and missed the exact score. Not bad for a model that usually prefers a quiet night in.

Ghana’s narrow 1-0 win against Panama was another TICK, with the model correctly calling the outcome but missing BTTS, halftime, and exact score. It kept its confidence appropriate, so no complaints there.

Then came the day’s sole MISS: Portugal’s 1-1 draw with Congo DR. The model was overconfident in a Portuguese win, missing the outcome and halftime calls, as well as the over-under and exact score. At least it got BTTS right, so it wasn’t a total disaster.

Overall, the model showed a strong grasp of outcomes and halftime predictions, with BTTS and exact scores proving trickier. Confidence ratings were mostly spot on, except for that overenthusiastic Portugal call. We’ll take four TICKs out of five any day.
