Conference League predictions take a hit with two misses on the day
Neither Brann nor Panathinaikos could be tamed by the model today, as both fixtures slipped through with missed outcome calls. At least the model nailed the BTTS call in one game, but overall it was a tough day for Fipster’s crystal ball.
Today’s UEFA Europa Conference League action was less of a triumph for our trusty prediction model and more of a reminder that even the best algorithms have off days. Both fixtures on August 5th ended up as misses — yes, two misses out of two. Not exactly the kind of batting average to brag about.
First up, Brann versus Apollon Limassol saw an unexpected 0-1 result that our model confidently predicted would be a 2-1 win for Brann. It got every dimension wrong: outcome, exact score, BTTS, over/under and halftime prediction all missed the mark. The confidence rating was "appropriate," which makes this miss feel all the more ironic.
Then Panathinaikos hosting CSKA 1948 ended 1-1, another result that defied the model’s forecast of a 2-1 home win. While it failed to predict the outcome and exact score correctly again, it did at least get one thing right — both teams scored — so we’ll give it a small pat on the back there. Over/under and halftime predictions were off once more.
So what’s the takeaway? The model’s record for this day stands at zero stars, zero ticks and two misses. A tough run indeed in this third qualifying round of the Conference League. But hey, even a stopped clock is right twice a day — just not today.
