Copenhagen’s spot-on scoreline and a Lugano surprise headline Conference League day
The Fipster model had a mixed bag in the UEFA Europa Conference League’s 2nd Qualifying Round, nailing one exact score and outcome, ticking another, but missing out on a shock Lugano rout. Confidence was mostly appropriate, with a hint of underconfidence in Vienna’s goal fest.
Today’s Conference League action served up a bit of everything for the Fipster model: a star performance, a tick, and a miss to keep us humble.
FC Copenhagen’s 2-1 victory over Polessya was the highlight, with the model perfectly predicting the outcome, exact score, both teams to score, and over/under goals — only halftime prediction slipped through. That’s as close to a crystal ball as we get around here.
Rapid Vienna also earned a tick with their 6-2 win against FC Santa Coloma. The model got the winner right and correctly called both teams to score plus the over/under threshold. It missed the exact score but was underconfident on that one — perhaps it underestimated Vienna’s attacking fireworks.
Meanwhile, Dukagjini versus FC Lugano turned into an unexpected rout that caught our model off guard. Predicting a narrow home win of 1-0, it instead saw Lugano storm to a 5-1 victory. None of the prediction dimensions landed here — outcome, exact score, BTTS, over/under, or halftime — reminding us that football can still surprise even the cleverest algorithms.
Overall, with one STAR, one TICK and one MISS across three fixtures today, the model showed solid form but also room for improvement. Confidence ratings were mostly appropriate except for that underconfident call on Vienna’s goal glut. A day of highs and lows — just like your average football fan’s emotions.
Model record: 1 STAR · 1 TICK · 1 MISS. Day grade: A-.
