A goalless draw leaves Fipster scratching its head

Today’s lone Major League Soccer fixture saw New York City FC and Nashville SC cancel each other out with a 0-0 draw. Unfortunately for the Fipster model, this was not the day to show off its predictive prowess.
The model confidently forecasted a 2-1 win for New York City FC, but reality had other plans. The outcome, exact score, both teams to score, and over/under predictions all missed their marks. On the bright side, it did get the halftime situation right — sometimes you have to take what you can get.
With an appropriate confidence rating, the model wasn’t wildly overestimating itself. Still, a clean sheet from both sides was not in the forecast. It’s a reminder that even the best algorithms can be left pondering when football decides to keep things tight and tidy.
