Fipster’s crystal ball foggy as NYCFC and Toronto FC share spoils
Only one match to call today in Major League Soccer, and our model went a bit overconfident predicting a New York City FC win. Instead, the teams settled for a 1-1 draw, leaving Fipster with a rare miss but at least nailing the both-teams-to-score call.
Today’s lone MLS fixture saw New York City FC and Toronto FC play out a 1-1 draw, which was not quite what our trusty Fipster had in mind. The model confidently tipped a 3-1 victory for NYCFC, so this result was a bit of a curveball.
Breaking down the prediction accuracy, Fipster did get one thing right: both teams found the net. So at least the model wasn’t completely off its rocker on that front. However, it missed the mark on the outcome itself, the exact scoreline, halftime prediction, and even the over/under goals call.
Interestingly, the confidence rating was “overconfident,” which makes this miss sting just a little more. But hey, nobody’s perfect — not even an algorithm with presumably fewer distractions than us humans.
So that’s one fixture, one miss — no stars or ticks to report today. We’ll take this as a reminder that soccer can be wonderfully unpredictable, even for our best digital guessers.
