Ligue 1’s Fipster model gets two right, one spectacularly wrong on August 30

A mixed bag for the Fipster prediction model today in Ligue 1: it nailed the outcomes and some key stats in Paris FC vs Nice and Rennes vs Le Mans, but completely missed the mark on Monaco vs Marseille, even coming off as overconfident.

Today’s Ligue 1 fixtures served up a bit of everything for our trusty Fipster model. The standout moment? Monaco’s 2-0 win over Marseille, which caught the model napping — it predicted a Marseille victory and got every call wrong, including outcome, exact score, BTTS, over/under, and halftime. Overconfident? Absolutely.

On a brighter note, Paris FC’s convincing 3-0 win against Nice was well forecasted on outcome, halftime correctness, and over/under goals. The exact score and BTTS calls didn’t quite land, but we’ll take that one with an "appropriate" confidence rating.

Similarly, Rennes edged out Le Mans 3-2 with the model correctly predicting the outcome, BTTS, and over/under goals. Halftime prediction slipped here though — no one’s perfect.

So overall: zero STAR grades today but two TICKs show the model had its day more often than not. The miss on Monaco vs Marseille reminds us that football is wonderfully unpredictable — even for algorithms. Confidence ratings were spot-on except where it mattered least.
