Mixed fortunes in Czech Liga as model nails two outcomes but stumbles on scorelines
Four fixtures, two hits and two misses for the Fipster prediction model today. While it called the winners correctly in Plzen vs Zlin and Slovácko vs Sigma Olomouc, it fluffed the exact scores and got the Pardubice vs Mlada Boleslav and Sparta Praha vs Teplice results wrong. A day of highs and lows with a respectable overall grade.
Today’s Czech Liga action served up a mixed bag for our trusty Fipster model. The standout moment? Well, it wasn’t quite a bullseye but two solid calls on match outcomes in Plzen beating Zlin 3-2 and Slovácko falling to Sigma Olomouc 1-2. Both matches saw the model correctly predict who would come out on top, even if it didn’t quite get the exact score right — close but no cigar.
On the flip side, Pardubice versus Mlada Boleslav threw a spanner in the works. The model confidently tipped a 1-3 away win but was left scratching its head when the teams settled for a 1-1 draw instead. Similarly, Sparta Praha’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Teplice was not on the cards; our model had them winning by just 2-3, missing both outcome and exact score predictions despite being overconfident.
Interestingly, both misses shared a common thread: while the model nailed that both teams would find the net (BTTS correct), it faltered on predicting halftime results and exact scores. It seems halftime is still an elusive beast for our algorithm — perhaps it needs a coffee break or two.
