QPR’s narrow win the lone bright spot in a tricky prediction day

Four Championship fixtures tested the Fipster model’s mettle today, with just one match earning a tick for accuracy. The rest proved a bit too adventurous, especially given some overconfident calls that didn’t quite land.

Today’s Championship round served up a mixed bag for the Fipster model. Out of four fixtures, only one prediction earned a respectable tick, while the other three missed the mark. It was a day where confidence didn’t always translate to correctness — sometimes overconfidence is just that.

The highlight came from QPR versus Cardiff, where the model correctly called the outcome and nailed both BTTS and over/under predictions. The exact score and halftime call slipped through, but overall it was a solid performance with an appropriate confidence rating — we’ll take that one.

Elsewhere, Burnley and Middlesbrough drew 1-1, but the model had predicted a 2-3 scoreline with an overconfident stance. The outcome and exact score were off, as were halftime and over/under calls, though it did get BTTS right — small mercies.

Millwall’s home defeat to Wrexham was another surprise for the model. It confidently forecasted a 3-1 win for Millwall but ended up missing every key dimension except over/under. Confidence rating? Overconfident again — lesson learned.

West Brom’s stalemate with Charlton also caught out the model’s predictions. A 1-2 away win was forecasted with high confidence but failed to materialise. Outcome, exact score, halftime and over/under calls all missed, though at least BTTS was spot on once more.

Overall, it was a tough day for Fipster in the Championship — three misses and just one tick out of four attempts. The model showed it can still get BTTS calls right even when other dimensions falter. We’ll file this under “room for improvement” and keep our chin up.
